Road transport and roads

Length of roads: 9610 km.

There are 24 carriers engaged in passenger transportation and 7 bus stations in the region. Over the first 9 months of 2024, 44 buses were updated, which will provide an environmentally friendly and comfortable transport service.

In addition, socially significant routes are subsidized, for which 2.5 billion tenge have been allocated. This will allow residents to move freely between the city and the village, receiving high-quality services.

Railway transport

Length of roads: 2143,4 km.

Rail transport is the most demanded by users; it provides production and individual transportation. The railway network allows transportation between all regions with access to neighboring countries.

To ensure operational activities, the Almaty branch of the road has 119 railway stations, 72 sidings and 12 overtaking stations.

Transit railway communications pass through the region in the following directions: Novosibirsk-Tashkent-Novosibirsk, Bishkek-Novokuznetsk-Bishkek, Almaty-Novosibirsk-Almaty, Almaty-Urumqi-Almaty, Almaty-Simferopol-Almaty, “Almaty-Moscow-Almaty”, “Almaty-Astana-Almaty”, “Almaty-Dostyk”, etc.

The Zhetygen-Khorgos railway line operates. The new direction of the Sino-Kazakhstan transport corridor will contribute to the development and expansion of economic ties between China and the countries of Southeast Asia with Kazakhstan, the countries of Central Asia and the Eurasian continent. The Zhetygen-Khorgos line will reduce the distance from China to the southern regions of Kazakhstan and the countries of Central Asia by 550 km, which will provide an increase in the volume of cargo transportation, including transit, which is important for the region and for Kazakhstan in general.

Air transport

In Almaty region, aviation transport is represented by JSC "airline" Zhetysu "and JSC" scat " which specializes in performing regular socially significant flights on the routes "Usharal – Astana – Usharal", "Usharal-Taldykorgan-Usharal" and "Astana-Taldykorgan-Astana" respectively.

JSC "airline" Zhetysu " has in its composition three Yak-40 aircraft, as well as the necessary complex of buildings, structures and equipment for air transportation. The airport belongs to the V-class airports with a class "B" airfield and can carry out transportation on CIS and local air lines.

Energy infrastructure and heat supply

27 renewable energy facilities operate in the region, including 18 hydroelectric power stations and 3 solar power plants with a total capacity of 888.4 MW.

The total length of power lines is 34.2 thousand km, substations-7.7 thousand units.

Heat supply is carried out by 33 boiler houses with a total capacity of 778 Gcal. The length of heating networks is 506.8 km.

Water transport

The length of the waterways: 2030 km.

The total length of the waterways of the region is 2030 km, of which: Kapshagai reservoir-110 km, the backwater to the border with China, up the Ili river-220 km, the lower reaches of the Ili river and lake Balkhash-1700 km.

On Kapshagay reservoir the Republican state enterprise "Ili enterprise of waterways" is located. The main objective of the enterprise is to carry out activities in the field of maintenance and development of navigable waterways in a safe condition on the Kapshagai reservoir.

Gas

The length of the Almaty-Baiserke-Talgar main gas pipeline is 64 km. The construction of the main gas pipeline from the Baiserke AGRS to the Konayev city AGRS with a length of 18.3 km has been completed. Four PPP projects worth 2 billion 729 million tenge have been implemented.

By the end of 2024, the gasification percentage is planned to increase to 52.8%, which will provide 150 settlements with natural gas. The remaining 134 settlements will be gasified by 2030.
