The population of Almaty region as of October 1, 2024 was 1,551.4 thousand people, including 302.4 thousand people (19.5%) - urban, 1,249.0 thousand people (80.5%) - rural residents.
The average monthly nominal wage accrued to employees (excluding small enterprises engaged in entrepreneurial activity) in the III quarter of 2024 amounted to $ 587.66, an increase compared to the II quarter of 2023. amounted to 13.1%.

University named after Suleiman Demirel (SDU) is one of the first private universities in Kazakhstan. The university is located at the foot of the mountains, 20 kilometers from the center of Almaty. The SDU was founded in 1996 and was inaugurated by the country's first president, Nursultan Nazarbayev. Currently, the university has four faculties: the Faculty of Pedagogy and Humanities, the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, the Faculty of Law and Social Sciences and the School of Business. Education is carried out in three languages: English (basic - 81% of all educational programs), Kazakh (16%) and Russian (3%).

Created on the basis of the Institute named after Academician Dzholdasbekov and the Institute "Temirkazyk", the Academy managed to preserve and enhance the traditions of higher education, becoming a cultural, educational and scientific center of the Zhetysu region of Kazakhstan. The Academy is headed by the candidate of historical sciences Sadykov Amangeldy Mazhitovich. It trains specialists in a wide range of the most demanded humanitarian and technical specialties. To improve the university management system, the university introduced, certified and successfully operates a quality management system, which has already been tested for compliance with the international standard ISO 9001: 2000.
