The project envisages the construction of a small hydroelectric power plant (HPP) with an installed capacity of 1.0 MW on the Karakol Reservoir in the Urzhar district of the Abay region. The maximum power generation capacity is 3,600,000 kWh.
The initiator of the project is the RSE «Kazvodkhoz».
What is the appeal of the project?
- Environmental safety. Electricity generation at a hydroelectric power plant significantly reduces the amount of harmful emissions into the environment with minimal water consumption, and the used water is discharged into the river through the flow part of the turbine.
- Reliability of the raw material base. The raw material for electricity production is the water flow of the Nura River. The level of precipitation in the river catchment area is relatively stable, and the risk of reducing the river flow is assessed as minimal.
- State support. The renewable energy sources sector (RES) is actively supported by the state. Today, RES sector enterprises are exempt from paying for electricity transmission services, they are provided with predictable and long-term tariffs and a guaranteed purchase of all generated electricity.
