As of May 1, 2025, the population of Almaty Region amounted to 1,573.0 thousand people, including 304.8 thousand (19.4%) urban residents and 1,268.2 thousand (80.6%) rural residents.
The average monthly nominal wage accrued to employees (excluding small business enterprises) in the 1st quarter of 2025 amounted to ₸339,185, which is 9.6% higher than in the 1st quarter of 2024.

University named after Suleiman Demirel (SDU) is one of the first private universities in Kazakhstan. The university is located at the foot of the mountains, 20 kilometers from the center of Almaty. The SDU was founded in 1996 and was inaugurated by the country's first president, Nursultan Nazarbayev. Currently, the university has four faculties: the Faculty of Pedagogy and Humanities, the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, the Faculty of Law and Social Sciences and the School of Business. Education is carried out in three languages: English (basic - 81% of all educational programs), Kazakh (16%) and Russian (3%).

Created on the basis of the Institute named after Academician Dzholdasbekov and the Institute "Temirkazyk", the Academy managed to preserve and enhance the traditions of higher education, becoming a cultural, educational and scientific center of the Zhetysu region of Kazakhstan. The Academy is headed by the candidate of historical sciences Sadykov Amangeldy Mazhitovich. It trains specialists in a wide range of the most demanded humanitarian and technical specialties. To improve the university management system, the university introduced, certified and successfully operates a quality management system, which has already been tested for compliance with the international standard ISO 9001: 2000.
